Awards

YBIKE won the second runner up prize in the Toddler catogory at the esteemed South Africa Toy of the Year Awards held in Sandton on the 15 of November 2007.

What makes this achievement remarkable is the fact that not one YBIKE had been sold at the time of judging which took place 2 months prior to the official launch of YBIKE. The judges only had a prototype to evaluate.

The competition involved all toys sold in South Africa during the past two years including such well known International brands as Lego, Superman, Fisher Price and others.

Raving Reviews

We recently had the YBIKE reviewed by Professor ES Bressan of the Dept. of Sport Science at Stellenbosch University. Her comments on the YBIKE were very positive.

"The value of enjoyment in learning should not be underestimated. You could see that riding their Y-Bike was a highlight in the children's day. If the Y-Bike did nothing else but convince the children that learning a new skill could be fun, it would qualify as an amazingly successful developmental toy.

The educational advantage of the Y-Bike is that in addition to be great fun, it allows each child to play as his/her own developmental level. I can imagine creative teachers being able to incorporate riding the Y-Bike into lessons about road safety, taking turns, the concepts of fast and slow, etc.

I was most impressed when the children who lacked physical self-confidence suddenly began to run to the playground to take their turns on the Y-Bikes. Within two weeks of Y-Bike activities, they were happily climbing on the jungle-gym and balancing on the walking beams, activities they never tried before.

We found that riding of the Y-Bikes resulted in substantial gains in children's static balance, dynamic balance and bilateral coordination with their legs. All of these abilities are critical to the future development of their locomotor skills.

Playing on the Y-Bikes gave the children the opportunity to explore the playground in a new way. Sometimes they raced a bit against each other, but usually they went for 'trips', sometimes side-by-side, in a follow-the-leader line, or just driving around by themselves. Riding their Y-Bikes became a social development experience, as well as a great motor development experience."
